Safety Seamanship

Good Seamanship skills are essential for personal safety and safety of the vessel. Accidents due to poor seamanship and observance of Safe Work Practices are a major concern to all in the shipping and offshore industries.

IDESS in partnership with clients have developed a 5 day course that addresses the theoretical and practical components of Seamanship Safe Work Practices.

The aim of the course is to provide Ratings and Officers the underpinning knowledge and skills to Work Safe.

  • Safe rigging and operation of pilot ladders, ladders,
    gangway and accommodation ladders
  • Confined space entry and rescue
  • Working aloft at heights and outboard
  • Mooring and anchoring operations
  • Safe handling of ropes, wires and tug lines, correct use of rope and chain stoppers
  • Lifting, rigging and slinging
  • Safe lifting, rigging and slinging
  • Hand signals used during lifting operations
